The student experience in Penn State’s College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) is unlike any other. Our undergraduates learn through real-world, hands-on scenarios to understand and shape how information and technology impact our lives. Our faculty’s expertise in business, government, and the military—combined with IST’s required internship—mean our students gain broad experiences that lead to successful careers in emerging fields.
We hope you’ll join us to Explore IST this fall. Connect with IST faculty and current students as you check out our majors, student organizations, and facilities. See how a College of IST education can prepare you for a meaningful career where information, technology, and society intersect.

1–4 p.m.
Westgate Building
University Park, PA
Explore IST is an open-house-style event, so there is no formal agenda. You are welcome to come and go as you please and take things at your own pace! Faculty, staff, and students will be available throughout Westgate Building to answer questions and help you find your way to our various resource stations.
You will have two opportunities to attend a presentation by the University's Undergraduate Admissions Office and Financial Aid Office. This session is not mandatory, but we encourage you to take advantage of this resource if you are interested!
- 2:15–2:45 p.m. (W201 Westgate)
- 2:45–3:15 p.m. (W201 Westgate)
There will be optional campus tours led by the Penn State Lion Ambassadors departing at 4:00 p.m. These walking tours typically last 60 to 90 minutes, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes if you plan to participate!
How do I get to the event? Where can I park?
Explore IST will be held in Westgate Building on Penn State's University Park campus. Westgate Building is uniquely identifiable, as the building spans U.S. Business Route 322 (North Atherton Street) between Park Avenue and State Route 26 (West College Avenue).
For driving directions, please access Google Maps directions.
Hourly visitor parking is limited around the Westgate Building and on campus. The closest parking areas with visitor spaces are the West Deck and the Nittany Parking Deck. Additional parking information is available on the Penn State Transportation Services website.
Once on campus, visit the campus map for building locations and walking directions.
We’re from out of state. What weather should we expect?
Central Pennsylvania in mid-September is still warm, but the weather can be unpredictable. We recommend planning for 70-80 degrees, but bring layers . . . and an umbrella, just in case!
Will there be staff or students on site to answer our questions?
Yes! IST faculty, staff, and students will be available to answer any questions you may have. They'll be easy to spot in their tie-dyed shirts!
- Our team from the Office of Enrollment, Engagement, and Belonging will be wearing rainbow tie-dye.
- Staff and students will be wearing blue-and-green tie-dye.
