You are here

The interview is one of the most important steps in the job search process. It may be in person, on the phone, or digital -- learn about the different types of interviews and how to prepare. Your resume got you in the door, now the interview allows you to elaborate on your experiences and skills and shows the employer why you are the right fit for the position.

The keys to interviewing success are:

  1. know yourself
  2. research the employer
  3. prepare for and follow-up after the interview

Throughout the hiring process, you may experience a variety of interview formats, based on the type of interview you are applying for. It is important to note that each company has their own process for interviewing potential candidates.  To sufficiently prepare for the interview, be sure to ask the hiring manager about expectations for each interview. The typical interview cycle starts with a phone or pre-screen interview, follows with an in-person interview, and ends with an employment offer.
