Who: Lizhen Zhu, doctoral candidate in the College of IST
What: A novel, human-inspired approach to training AI systems to identify objects and navigate their surroundings could set the stage for the development of more AI systems to explore extreme environments, according to research from an interdisciplinary team at Penn State. Zhu, who was the lead author, is advised by James Z. Wang, distinguished professor in the College of IST. Collaborators from Penn State’s Department of Psychology and Department of Computer Science contributed to the study.
