Information Security
  • The IST Center for Information Assurance is a focal point for research and learning on security issues for Penn State faculty across a variety of disciplines: information sciences and technology, engineering, communications, and business. Undergraduate students have been involved in efforts of the center, along with doctoral and post-doctoral students.
  • IST’s Center for Information Assurance is an official Center of Academic Excellence in Information Security as certified by the National Security Agency. The certification has enabled three IST students to be awarded Department of Defense Information Assurance Scholarships, and major research grants to be awarded to the college’s faculty.
  • Researchers in IST’s Cyber-Security Laboratory are investigating self-healing workflow systems, wireless network design and security, and modeling and inference of attacker intent, objectives and strategies.
  • Penn State has joined the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) to launch the new International Center for the Study of Terrorism. IST will be part of a multidisciplinary team spearheading center initiatives for the University.
  • IST professors and graduate students have contributed to a newly published book on counter-terrorism technologies and the public policy debate around them. Leading the way was John Yen, co-editor of the book—Emergent Information Technologies and Enabling Policies for Counter-Terrorism.
  • Information Assurance is a specialized concentration of courses, or theme track, offered by IST that can lead to certification as an Information Systems Security (INFOSEC) Professional.
