Career Placement Process
The IST professional placement program is designed to maximize your career planning opportunities prior to graduation. The following policies and procedures, to which all students are expected to adhere, are designed to provide equivalent services to all IST University Park (UP) students. ist.psu.edu.Procedures for Individual Appointments
The professional placement program offers individualized career counseling and planning sessions for all IST (UP) students who need assistance with their post-graduation preparation. To schedule an appointment with Madhavi Kari, please follow these procedures:
- Contact Madhavi Kari at careersist.psu.edu or by phone at 814-865-4509 to request a meeting time.
- Please bring a working copy of your resumé to your meeting or e-mail it to Madhavi Kari prior to your appointment.
- If you need to cancel your appointment, please contact Madhavi Kari as early as possible so that space can be opened up to other students needing assistance.
Recommendations for Student Attendance at Corporate Information/Interview Sessions
Corporate information sessions are an important and effective way to obtain a professional interview. We strongly recommend you follow these guidelines to maximize your chances for success:
- Always dress professionally. At the minimum, this means business casual clothing. However, more formal attire may be appropriate based upon the dress code of the company. Remember, you are a reflection of the college and professional image is very important when interfacing with companies.
- Make sure you are on time to all information and interview sessions. Being late for these events shows poorly on your ability to be an effective employee to your potential employer. If you are going to miss an appointment, please notify the employer in advance of your scheduled meeting.
- Bring at least three copies of your resume and reference list to distribute to company representatives.
IST Senior Survey Procedures
The IST Senior Survey is a confidential and systemized methodology for collecting valuable employment data. This information is highly beneficial for students who are engaging in the job search process and those who are negotiating a starting salary. We ask that every IST student complete the survey prior to graduation, preferably after they have accepted an offer of employment or entrance to graduate school.
Close to graduation, you will be receiving a request to take the Senior Survey from the Career Solutions team. We would greatly appreciate your cooperation!
