College of IST Alumni Society Committees
The following committees support the College of IST Alumni Society. If you are interested in becoming involved, or have ideas you’d like to share, please contact the appropriate committee chair.
Finance Committee
Gary Ramsey - Finance Committee Chair
The Finance Committee works with each committee chair to determine how the society can most efficiently spend funds on its initiatives and maximizes what the society is able to achieve for the various audiences it serves. We also partner with the Strategy Committee to expand our resources.
Strategic Committee
David Horn - Strategic Committee Chair
The Strategic Committee assesses the society’s communications and activities to determine ways to improve and grow. We consult with other alumni societies and review best practices to benchmark our success.
Alumni Committee
Brian Freas - Alumni Committee Chair
The Alumni Committee focuses our efforts on events for the alumni population and plans activities such as:
Byron Parry - Recruiting & Membership Committee Chair
The Recruiting and Membership Committee concentrates on recruiting members into the society and getting members involved. If you have an idea for an event or initiative please contact Byron Parry and Byron will work with you to make it happen!
Marketing and Communications Committee
Ryan Pfister - Marketing & Communications Committee Chair
The main function of the Marketing and Communications Committee is to promote the alumni society, including activities such as:
Jake Thorwart - Prospective Students Committee Chair
The Prospective Students Committee provides the first contact that an IST student may have with alumni. We are involved in:
Carlton Jacobson - Current Students Committee Chair
The Current Students Committee serves as the main connection between current students and the College of IST Alumni Society, and works with IST student groups to sponsor events for their clubs. The Current Students committee also is actively recruiting alumni mentors.

- Social events in areas where alumni are currently living

The Recruiting and Membership Committee concentrates on recruiting members into the society and getting members involved. If you have an idea for an event or initiative please contact Byron Parry and Byron will work with you to make it happen!
Marketing and Communications Committee
Ryan Pfister - Marketing & Communications Committee Chair
The main function of the Marketing and Communications Committee is to promote the alumni society, including activities such as:
- Developing marketing materials for the society’s events and programs
- Reviewing the Web site, College of IST Alumni Society Facebook group, and print materials to suggest new ways to enhance the alumni society’s message
Jake Thorwart - Prospective Students Committee Chair
The Prospective Students Committee provides the first contact that an IST student may have with alumni. We are involved in:
- Organizing recruiting visits to high schools to promote IST@PennState
- Answering questions regarding Penn State and IST to students and their families
- The Spend a Summer Day Program, College of IST Open House, and the College of IST Phone-a-Thon
Carlton Jacobson - Current Students Committee Chair
The Current Students Committee serves as the main connection between current students and the College of IST Alumni Society, and works with IST student groups to sponsor events for their clubs. The Current Students committee also is actively recruiting alumni mentors.
President
Pete Lechneris the current President of the College of IST Alumni Society. His responsibilities include:
- Working with committee chairs to develop their initiatives and plan their events
- Contributing to the overall planning for the Penn State Alumni Association by serving on Alumni Council
President-Elect
Prerana Dalal is president–elect, a role that involves:
- Leading alumni outreach efforts designed to create awareness, involvement and support
- Working with the current students chair to promote student engagement
- Promoting THON
- Aiding the college in achieving its diversity goals
