21-Nov-2000 Final Exam Questions Wanted
I would like every student to send me two multiple-choice or
true/false questions (and answers). Please send them to
the class listserv by no later than December 3. The
questions should cover material from the latter half of the
semester - readings and lectures (not labs).
16-Nov-2000 Social Aspects Lab
Here is a link to the stuff I used when I held the Social Aspects
lab a few weeks ago
social-aspects-lab. Included is the outline of the
example I did.
7-Nov-2000 Reminder -- Debate Posting 2 Due Tonight
A reminder that your followup debate posting is due tonight by
midnight. Be sure to post it (text only) to the class listserv
conference.
2-Nov-2000 Server Problems - Class Mirror Site Established
The IST server partition ran out of quota sometime yesterday, preventing
me from uploading class materials. So - I have established a class mirror
site at
http://www.personal.psu.edu/staff/g/m/gms/cya/110fa00/. I will be
maintaining this mirror until the quota problems are resolved on
the other server.

from a variety of sources and application areas.
11-Sep-2000 -- Job opportunities with CAC Training Group.
The CAC Training Group is looking to hire students with good technical
skills (e-mail, word processing, HTML, FTP, etc.) who are also
good at helping inexperienced users learn to use computer applications.
The successful candidate will be rewarded with good pay, flexible
hours, great resume material and paid training.
If you are intreested, send your resume listing relevant computing
skills to seminars@psu.edu -- be sure to tell them that you are
in Dr. Santoro's IST 110 class. (it may help) Or call 863-9522.
If you
get an interview, you will be asked to present a 5-minute class
on sending and receiving electronic mail.
5-Sep-2000 -- Do not send attachments to the Listserv Conference.
Please do not send binary attachments to the Listserv conference. The archiving
mechanism does not handle attachments correctly, with the result that the
information becomes inaccessable.
If you use a word processor to create the notes - convert them to ASCII text
first, then copy and paste that text into the body of your note to the
Listserv conference. NOTE - The ability to create an ASCII file from a
WP document is a very important real-world skill!
31-Aug-2000 -- Minor Office Hours Change.
For various technical reasons, I will not be in the class chat room
during office hours. I will, however, have my AIM client running
(uesrid=gmsantoro). So, if you need help during my office
hours - but do not want to walk to my office - check for me using
AIM.
22-Aug-2000 -- Book Mystery Solved.
The book mystery is solved. The two books are virtually identical.
We will go with the Computer Concepts book -- the one from the
bookstore. ISBN-0-7600-6499-7 (This is the one that folks already
have.)
The good news is that the readings are all the same -- so you
can follow the syllabus.
The bad news is -- that is all the good news for now...
22-Aug-2000 -- Yet another student survey.
We like to begin the semester by learning something about our
students. So, sometime during the first week please take a moment
to complete this online survey. Completion
of this survey will be counted in your overall participation -- so be
sure to complete it correctly.
22-Aug-2000 -- Student Groups.
